Sunrise's on 5th division title and 4th league championship for Tequila |

TEQUILA,
New Mexico- Every season there is one team which comes from the
shadows to take the league by storm. In 2004 that team was the Tequila
Sunrise; they are a franchise that is known for a gambling, wide open
attacking offense. The thing is they don’t really ever pay for that
style of play, where some of the leagues other teams have tried to go
that route and get pushed back to the ice age with the amount of rebuilding
they must endure. Team owner and league commissioner Jeff Dixon recently
speculated that, “I think the other owners are just plain jealous,
I have 4 championships and I'm always looking for more.”
It doesn’t really matter how the ball bounces the league flourishes on draft day. Growing from year to year, and with the advent a few years ago of having guaranteed contracts for three players, it seems like the league will continue to go strong. It looks like the Sunrise will have a few questions to ask themselves this offseason for the first time in years, in seasons past the contracts were no brainers but this season it looks like the players are going to be on pins and needles. Marshall Faulk a perennial protectee and league MVP candidate is starting to slow and might be released, but it’s just not as easy as Faulk gets cut and player X takes his spot. The team has five players who deserve consideration but QB Daunte Culpepper is a shoo-in for a contract due to his mastery of the offense he has ran for 5 seasons, it seems that another near shoo-in for an offer would be RB Shaun Alexander, who has been just plain dominant for 3 years now. But it’s the third and final contract that seems to be the thorn in the front offices side, with RB’s Reuben Droughns, Kevin Jones, and WR Reggie Wayne all deserving consideration and even though Wayne has the most upside the team will probably give the proposal to one of the runningbacks. “I think that even though Reggie is a great receiver and one hell of a guy we will probably give the final contract proposal to Kevin Jones, and only because he is a few years younger” states Dixon, acting as the teams owner. For most teams in the league the chance to play in one championship game is enough to keep them going for years to come but the truly amazing feat is going back to them on a consistent basis. The most heroic of wins and disappointing of losses each came against the same team, as Tabbi’s Kats beat them in the regular season week 4 and then the Sunrise were able to turn the table on the Kats during the Super Bowl and beat them 63-32. “It seems like no matter how good we are or the Kats are it’s a battle to the final gun when our two teams play,” gushed Dixon. In the end it all comes down to wins and losses, who has it and who doesn’t, well its obvious to many observers that, if push comes to shove Jeff Dixon is one of the men crafty enough to run any team well.
