Same team, new city as Neckties become the Morehead City Drunks |

MOREHEAD
CITY, North Carolina- This past off-season was a tumultuous one,
first the team was informed by the U.S. State Department, that there was
plot to kidnap many of the team’s front office personnel, including
owner James Fagras. After the team personnel were airlifted out of the
country, a new football home was needed, so the search was set in motion.
When no one on the west coast stepped up, Fagras decided to take an offer
from Morehead City, North Carolina, “Morehead City is really the
perfect place for our team, the city was really ecstatic about being involved
with the team and the league. They have a state of the art stadium and
we’re really excited about our first season in the states,”
stated Fagras. He also raised the point of wanting to realign the divisions
for the 2006 season, “I understand that with the move happening
so late in the year that we are locked into the current configuration,
but this is something that should defiantly be looked at for next season.”
If this team plans on taking the next step and making the playoffs in 2005, they are going to have to have a great off-season and draft. Getting back to the off-season the team will have to make its selections on who to give its 3 guaranteed contracts to before the draft kicks off and if you thought uncovering the meaning of life was difficult the only sure fire player to receive a contract should be QB Jake Delhomme. Delhomme made a splash, in 2003 when he was inserted into the starting lineup and led the team to consecutive victories to end the season and after last years impressive and gritty performance, where he almost led the team to the playoffs single handedly well he should’ve gotten some votes for MVP, if not for the season South Carolina QB Peyton Manning put together. “It was just a great feeling for me to see Jake play as well as he did this season and as for the other players, I think they stepped up their level of play as high as they could its just too bad they didn’t have anymore talent,” said Fagras. As for the other two contracts, the defense should be brought back, noting that we would only bring a defense that could score points and this team can definitely score points. K David Akers is the only other player on the team that made a big enough contribution it would merit a guaranteed contract, but this is only speculation and nothing is set in stone. Early and often that is when it happened for Morehead City, the teams most destructive loss on the season came in week 4 it was a 40-38 loss to Austin, a division opponent, when a Paul Edinger 25 yard FG sailed through the goal posts. “The Austin game that was a tough one to swallow, we had a lead late in the game and then David missed 2 4th quarter FG’s and their offense was able to drive the field and get in range for Paul,” explains Fagras. Two weeks after that loss the Neckties came in to South Carolina and got the breaks late in the game to stop a smoldering Scarecrow team 37-34. “The South Carolina game was a great game for us I just wish we would’ve been able to harness the momentum we got from that game,” states Fagras. The most amazing thing this team was able to pull off was to frighten the leagues most elite teams not to mention the teams in the western division. Before the season was over James wanted to convey one final item to the leagues teams: “Let everyone take heed of what we did here this season, but let me tell you this next season I'm coming after each and everyone of you.”
