Boy Scouts sneak in to playoffs by FG, promptly start looking to 2005 |

BOISE,
Idaho- Honor is what this team was founded on and that is the
attribute each player has to show before he is welcomed into the halls
of the team offices. Where the team goes from here is another story, last
year showed that this team is loyal to a fault as QB Chad Pennington was
severely injured for the second season in a row, now there are difficult
decisions to be made as one mistake with a player and the team is hanging
on for dear life, and not positioning themselves for a playoff run. “Chad’s
injuries the last two seasons have really hurt us; he has painted us into
a corner now we have to decide where this team is headed,” states
owner Josh Prine.
When a team scrutinizes their rosters while determining which players are worthy of being handed a guaranteed contract one of the many focal points is durability. “Since we play in a cold weather climate, we tend to look for players who don’t have a history of missing games because of muscle strains or other minor injuries, after our new retractable roof stadium is finished this summer those minor injuries will be less of a factor but still a factor nonetheless.” One of the problems for this team is the offense it needs to be determined whether Pennington is the man to run the offense? If the team decides yes; then Pennington will get a guaranteed contract for next season. If the team thinks they can get the production from somewhere else then Pennington will be jettisoned and the extra contract will go to someone like RB Warrick Dunn or maybe more improbable K Adam Vinatieri, he was so valuable to this team, he even threw a TD pass this during a week 9 win over the Kat’s. The other two contracts should basically be sewn up by now with the team exercising its rights to keep RB Domanick Davis and TE Tony Gonzalez. “Domanick and Tony give this team veteran leadership, which is one of the most important characteristics that we look for in this organization.” How do you characterize a season in which a meaningless field goal sets you up to make a run at the league championship? One of the team’s most important wins of the season was a week 9 win over eventual Super Bowl runner-up Tabbi’s Kats 57-32. “The best thing about this game was the fact we basically did it without a quarterback as Chad had a touch of the flu that game and wasn’t 100%.” Chalking up the most damning loss for the Boy Scouts was the week 7 44-40 loss to Nashville, who scored their first win of the season in the game. “The Nashville game was hard to swallow, we should of won the game, we had more talent than that group of Pussies and really needed the win, we could’ve been had more momentum going in to the last 6 weeks of the season.” As the old saying goes: ‘If at first you don’t succeed try, try again’ the 2005 Boy Scouts will try again to get it right, after their second season they have made the playoffs twice and lost in the first game twice, eventually they will need to get past the first game or the fans will get sick of the smoke and mirrors and quit coming to the games. |
